All season has lead up to this moment, tennis state. Emotions are high and excitement is in the air. It is the first year since 1978 that the Packers have made it to state and every team is trying their hardest to make it to the top.
“The mood starts to change from thinking how it would be great to go to state as a team, to go to state as a team, and be proud and knowing that we can go to state,” varsity boy’s tennis coach, Chad Anderson said.
As it is the first time in 35 years that the boys made it to state, tension and nervousness was in the air, and everyone was intently watching the games going on around them.
“Once you get out there you get a little bit more confidence, you start playing, you’re not as nervous,” Junior Brady Ballweber said.
Not only did the packers make it to state, they made history. The team of Ballweber and Junior Keyan Farahmand have become the first tennis players from West Fargo to win a state championship.
“Yesterday and the day before it was really exciting,” Senior Brendan Walker said.
As it is the first year in a while that the packers made it to state everyone was very excited and pleased with how everything went. Not only was it the first time the packers have made it to state in a while, it was a season of firsts.
“We beat Fargo North for the first time in Fargo North’s history or West Fargo’s history,” Anderson said.
It has become a new year for the varsity boy’s tennis team, a year of friendships, hard work, determination, and because of it all, a year of winning.
“The feeling that I have I’ve never experienced before. This is the first time boys have ever been in the championship in the state finals, and I don’t know if it’s sunk in yet,” Anderson said.
