On Thursday, April 7, 2022, West Fargo High School held their annual department theme day. The winner of this year’s best department as voted by went to the Health/PE department with their theme of #freebritney. The theme comes from the #freebritney movement involving Britney Spears’ controversial relations with her father, who has Spears under a harsh contract.  World Languages placed second and Special Education received third place.

The annual tradition of department theme day has been going on for many year now; it began when teachers thought it would be a fun idea to include their own staff theme week. For many years now, WFHS has seen success in department theme day as it is a way to get the students and staff involved during school. Also, the fact that the themes are hidden until the specific day has students, especially freshman, surprised when they walk into school.

Some of this year’s department themes included:

  • Retrobowl – English Language Arts
  • Mini-Golf – Special Education
  • Pac-Man – CTE
  • Bean Boozled – Social Studies
  • “Dodgeball” – Math
  • “Mighty Ducks” – Counseling
  • Natural Disasters – Science
  • “Welcome to the Jungle” – Library/Tech/Resource Team
  • “Mama Mia” – World Languages
  • Pajama Party – Kitchen

Previous winners of the staff theme week include the EL Department’s circus theme during the 2020-2021 school year and the CTE department the year before.
