While most people only have one life to live, gamers can have as many as they want. In games like Super Mario Bros players can come back to life after being eaten by a flower or falling off a cliff. Students in Gamer Club have this down to a science. Gamers Club is a free club where students can go play video games, such as Wii or X-Box, computer games, card games, or just hang out with friends.
“People can bring in their own system and games and just have fun,” Gamer Club’s President Jadon Grover said.
One very special member of this club is Ian Alves. Alves has been in Gamers Club since he started high school, according to Grover. Alves was also the inspiration behind the Gamer Club’s game night Nov. 15th. The club got together to support Alves with his battle with cancer.
”When we heard about Ian’s situation a bunch of our Gamer Club members came up to me right away and wanted to do something to help out,” Gamers Club adviser David Clemenson said.
The group ordered pizza, drinks and took donations of two dollars when people walked in the door. All the proceeds were given to Alves and his family. Originally, the benefit was supposed to be held a week earlier, but since Alves was in Florida on his family’s vacation it got pushed back.
“Ian always tried to come to Gamers Club meetings even if he wasn’t having the best day,” Clemenson said.
Even though Alves was not able to attend the game night, Clemenson said he is in all their thoughts.
“Ian has showed me how dedicated some kids can be, to not only each other and the things they like, but also to their school,” Clemenson said.
