Behind the 52nd Avenue Wal-Mart lays an old gravel road leading to a grove of trees. These trees hide away a house that receives more attention this time of year. Students avoid the threat of trespassing to check out the ‘haunted’ house.
“You can’t see anything but the trees,” junior Alexandra Dub said. “Then there’s the boat and then it’s just the old creepy house.”
The house has chipped white paint with almost all the windows broken. The yard around it is full of trash and tracks of other people’s cars. The house’s appearance includes broken beer bottles, smashed walls and ruined furniture.
The two sheds in the yard are filled with old items like books, toys, and old chalk boards.
“The whole house is filled with old people’s stuff,” Dub said.
There are multiple rumors about the house and why it is abandoned. Dub believes there once was an old man that lived there before he was arrested for assaulting children. While senior Christina Bruenjes believes that the family that lived there just moved away.
“The house is really creepy,” Bruenjes says. “It doesn’t have any doors and the hallways are tiny.”
Regardless of its origin, both Dub and Bruenjes agree that the basement is the scariest part of the house. The lower level is made of complete concrete with only one small window that doesn’t provide much light, even during the day.
“It’s just gross and creepy,” Dub said.
