One of my favorite artists currently is PinkPantheress; her upbeat hip-hop beats paired with her soft vocals are super unique and caught my attention. The English singer/songwriter blew up in 2021, with songs like “Break It Off,” “Just For Me,” and “Pain” gaining popularity on TikTok. I initially discovered PinkPantheress after I fell in love with her song “Pain,” which was top 3 in my Spotify wrapped that year. As a result, I opted to listen to the entirety of her mixtape “to hell with it” and liked every song on the project. She ended up gaining the global recognition she deserves from her collaboration song with Ice Spice, “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2” blowing up and peaking at number 3 on the American billboard charts.
When her single “Attracted To You” came out, it became one of my favorite songs of all time. As a result, I was excited to learn that her debut album was released on November 10th. I am definitely excited to hear more music from her, but I am also excited how she can handle the transition from mostly very short songs to longer songs on a full-fledged album.
Another life (feat. Rema)-7.0/10 The beat starts off a bit weird but is good once it kicks in, its nothing I haven’t heard from her though and the feature was forgettable. Solid song
True romance-8.5/10 Great beat with an acoustic guitar base, I also really liked the chorus, a really good performance from her on this one.
Mosquito- 7.2/10 This song was released before the album came out as a single, so it was already on my playlist, a good laid-back beat with some good vocals, overall, a good song.
The aisle-8.5/10 The beat slowly fading in at the beginning and then switching in the middle was definitely cool, her flow on this song was very good as well. The ending verse is borderline iconic too and I somehow missed it on the first listen through.
Nice to meet you (Feat. Central Cee)- 7.5/10 This is the song that is being promoted the most off of this album, I came into this song ready to hate on Central Cee’s verse, but it was actually pretty good.
Bury me (feat. Kelela)-7.8/10 A very catchy verse and a great feature, this one is more laid back than the usual song from her, but I like it.
Internet baby (interlude)-7.5/10 The chorus is very good, and the end is great, but the verses are a bit underwhelming, and it holds this song back.
Ophelia- 5.5/10 The beat sounds like the morning flower android alarm sound, but the drums come in and drown it out pretty quick, in my opinion the worst song so far but it is still solid.
Feel complete-8.7/10 Everything about the beat on this song is great it is super intricate with so many layers, the chorus is catchy, and the lyrics are pretty good, the best song on the album so far.
Blue- 8.0/10 Again another good song, the chorus is great, she switches her flow on this song mid-way through and it works perfectly, the beat is a bit simple but still good.
Feelings-5.0/10 The beat is kind of bare, with just some drums, the performance from PinkPantheress wasn’t very good as well. The second half of the song is better than the first and improved the score a bit.
Capable of love- 8/10 This song was also released before the album officially came out and is very good, almost 4 minutes long with good lyrics and a great chorus.
Boy’s a liar Pt. 2- 10/10 This song was included on the album, but I don’t really want to attribute it to the albums overall score. That being said, this song is a banger, everything about it is awesome and I was happy to listen to it to close out the album.
Final Score Light 7
This album had me a bit lost at first; I didn’t really like the album on my first listen and thought all of the songs were similar. I was also kind of waiting the entire album for one of those incredible PinkPantheress songs to pop up and it never did. However, if I appreciate the songs at face value, I found there were some great songs like “True romance”, “The aisle” and “Feel complete.” I had this album at 6 but bumped it up to a 7. I think this is a good debut album and steppingstone for her to reach that next level with her next projects and songs. I am excited for the rest of her career, and to brag to everyone that I was a fan before she was popular. Please E-mail me album suggestions at [email protected].
