Taylor Swift Evermore review

Maiya Houle, Staff Writer

On December 11, 2020 Taylor released her newest album Evermore, the sister album to her previous album a couple months before this, Folklore. These two albums are very similar sonically and thematically. The scene for both takes place in the woods, which is thought to correspond with a song on one of her previous albums, 1989, called Out of the Woods. As some of her previous albums were listed as pop, Evermore and Folklore were listed as Alternate.

This album was just another one of her masterpieces. She started out with a song called Willow sounding like some type of mystical scene. The songs talks about falling in love with someone magical. The song has lyrics like the more that you say the less I know, wherever you stray I’ll follow,”. Readers see this as you’re distracted by someone interesting, falling for someone. Following this first track is a more somber song called champagne problems. This song contradicts Willow, this is more about falling out of love, losing someone because of problems. This was rumored to be about Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber because of lyrics such as “sometimes you just don’t know the answer ‘til someone’s on their knees and asks you.” Fans thought this was about the multiple times Justin Bieber proposed to Selena Gomez and her response always being no. Taylor Swift writes her music about her life. She writes about her friends and family and things that happen to them. The sad song says “you won’t remember all my champagne problems.”

The fifth track on the album, “no body, no crime” is a standout track that discusses themes of infidelity between her good friend and her husband. The song shows older themes of country, which was the genre of her first few albums. no body, no crime says, “I think he did it but I just can’t prove it, which presents the song as a murder mystery narrative.

One of the last few songs on the album is called marjorie, an ode to her grandmother, Marjorie Finlay, who was an opera singerThe song talks about her connection to her grandmother in some way. The lyrics say “if I didn’t know better, I think you’re singing to me now”conveying a sense that her grandmother is still singing to her like she used to when she was younger.

This year Taylor Swift has made huge history in the music industryShe was the first person to have five albums at number one on charts when released. She has also stayed number one on charts for the longest time. Both Evermore and Folklore succeeded very well, and pleased her fans the most.
