On Monday, May 11 at West Fargo High, Sue Jordahl, Band Director, and the Symphonic Band performed their last concert of the school year. Many seniors were awarded for their hard work in and out of the classroom by getting letters, bars, and stars. They performed “Arrows of Lightning”, “Those Fabulous Flutes”, “An American Elegy”, “Godzilla Eats Las Vegas”, and they closed with Symphony No.9 “New World”.

“It was intimidating, but it was still fun being able to play with my band family for the last time” Senior Cynthia Vistad said.

Several seniors had opportunity to perform a solo. Erin Thostenson performed her solo on her saxophone. Dani Haekenkamp performed a solo for “Those Fabulous Flutes” on her tuba. Senior Ciara Houser conducted “Arrows of Lightning”. Their finale “New World” symphony had its first performance in 1893, it continues to be one of the most popular works in the orchestral repertoire. Repeated and developmental sections were removed, to shorten the length from 15 minutes to 6 minutes.

“My seniors are just awesome people, they are going to go far in life” Jordahl said.
