Aspiring to take a position with a medical job, senior Morgan Stirling became the president of the high school’s Chapters Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) group. Stirling also is in possession of  the position of Vice President for HOSA state wide.

“HOSA gives us the opportunity to job shadow and learn hands on and then compete at the state and national level,”Stirling said.

Being the president the high school’s HOSA group, Stirling leads the group meetings, and aims to make HOSA more well known. Holly Strand, one of two advisers for HOSA, shares the same desire as Stirling.

“The main goal of West Fargo Public Schools HOSA for this year was to increase membership and awareness that the club exists,” Strand said. “We would also like to have a strong showing at the State competition with more qualifiers for Nationals.”

HOSA gives students the chance to shadow the jobs that they want to pursue in the future. The group is looking to give to the community and become more well known.

“North Dakota’s numbers are greatly increasing, but for West Fargo personally we plan on doing more volunteering this year,” Stirling said. “We have plans to spend time at Villa Maria, help at the children’s hospital, work with the Shriners at the circus, and run blood drives.”

The high school’s vice president of HOSA, junior Keely Walker, is thankful to work with Stirling.

“She is amazing at encouraging everyone to share their ideas,” Keely said.”She is awesome at having control over the group without having to be mean.”

With such a new group, not too many people would know exactly what to do. However, Stirling said that although the group is new, the group is able to function well.

“They are great at getting ideas and trying to expand and learn,” Stirling said. “This year is the first for many of the West Fargo members so they are trying to learn the system and trying to organize volunteering.”
